Chainsaw two-stroke engines do not possess an oil sump, dipstick, or oil pump for crankcase lubrication. Instead, air, vaporized gasoline, and atomized 2-stroke oil enter the crankcase together through the carburetor intake tract during the intake stroke.

50:1 vs 40:1 vs 32:1: Which Mix Ratio Should You Use?
- 50:1 Ratio (2% Oil Content):
- Standard for Modern Saws: Specified by Stihl, Husqvarna, Echo, and RedMax for all modern EPA Phase 3 compliant saws.

- Benefits: Provides an added safety cushion against lean fuel-air mixtures caused by minor crankcase seal air leaks.
- 32:1 Ratio (3.125% Oil Content):

The Dangers of Ethanol (E10/E15) in 2-Stroke Chainsaw Engines
Pump gasoline containing 10% ethanol (E10) is the leading cause of 2-stroke carburetor failure:
- Phase Separation: Ethanol attracts atmospheric moisture. Once water content reaches 0.5%, the alcohol-water mix separates to the bottom of the fuel container as a corrosive, zero-lubrication layer.
- Leaning Out Mixtures: Ethanol contains oxygen, effectively leaning out the air-fuel ratio by 3-4%. Without carburetor adjustment, E10 causes saws to run hotter.
- Deterioration: Ethanol degrades rubber fuel lines, metering diaphragms, and primer bulbs over time.

- Pour Half Gas First: Never pour 2-stroke oil into an empty gas can. Pour 50% of the gasoline into your container first.

- Agitate Vigorously: Cap the container tightly and shake for 15 seconds to ensure complete oil diffusion.
