Light Gun Shooter
October 1985 (Nintendo)
I feel like Wild Gunman is going to get worse than it deserves treatment from me because I already did Hogan’s Alley. Which sucks, because Wild Gunman is a bit better when you think about it.
Both games have a mode where there’s a wall with windows and you shoot people as they show up. It’s hard to say which is better because you get to pick between having innocent people in the mix or two guys who will both shoot you if you’re not fast enough.
From here on out, Wild Gunman is a different game. There are 2 basic modes beyond what’s explained above, and they aren’t much different in theory. With 1 outlaw you’re in a duel with 1 outlaw. You can also have a duel with 2 outlaws at the same time. This might not be very fair in the real world, but it’s great for the game.
There’s no trick shot. The target’s don’t move. It really is the worst of the 3 light gun shooters available at the launch of the NES. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad game at all. It’s just that something has to be the worst.
