Duck Hunt

Duck Huny

Light Gun Shooter

October 1985 (Nintendo)

Duck Hunt was not the first light gun game by a long shot, but we’ll cover that later.  Duck Hunt however was the first light gun game for the NES in North America.  It also came in some packages of the NES, along with Gyromite.  But we’ll get to that game later.

The original cartridge for Duck Hunt only has two modes, 1 and 2 ducks.  The ducks get faster as the game progresses.  There are 3 types of ducks, although that damn dog only holds up 1 of them when he retrieves your duck.

If you happen to have an NES then this game is a lot of fun.  If you’ve got an emulator then it’s just a point and click game.  I love Duck Hunt when it’s on an NES.  But when it’s through the emulator it’s just sort of boring.

Technically there’s a 2 player mode where the second controller can control the ducks.  I’ve tagged this game as both single player and multiplayer because I’m not going to deny that the mode exists, but I hardly think it’s worth it.
